Borovets is a ski resort lying on the northern slop of Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. It is the oldest winter resort of the country, with a history going back to 1896. It is located approximately 72 km. from the capital, Sofia, and it is easily accessible by car or by plane.  Nowadays it is one of the largest and most modern Bulgarian winter resorts and the oldest of the ski centres in the country.  The resort is located at an altitude of 1.350 meters and its ski slopes reach approximately 2.250 meters altitude, surrounded by a forest of fir trees that create a scenery resembling the Alps.

The resort has hosted the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup twice.  The biathlon route is one of the best in Europe. Usually the ski slopes of Borovets are covered with snow starting from mid December until April.  The average temperatures during the coldest month of January vary between -6 to 4 °C. There are overall 24 ski slopes and 15 lifts, all marked with international trail markings and multilingual signs. The ski slopes accommodate multiple difficulty levels, there are 13 red, 3 black and 8 blue routes. The slopes of Borovets are spread over three different areas. Cross-country trails and biathlon tracks are situated 2 km away from the resort together with matching training cross-country trails. Borovets offers a well-organized lift system that includes Gondola lifts (cable cars). There are 8 snow cannons for artificial snow that guarantee the snow coverage of 200 acres of snow. The ski schools of Borovets are renowned for being the best in Bulgaria. There are more than 200 multilingual ski instructors and some of them being professional skiers.
